Glossary
- Bombing:
- To go out writing graffiti.
- Crossing-out:
- When someone goes over a writers piece or tag with their own piece or tag. This also refers to authorities that put black lines through graffiti, especially along railway lines, and leave it there as opposed to removing it.
- Getting Up:
- Getting your name (tag) up around the city, which also refers to the action of going out tagging, for example, "I got up in Newtown last night".
- Piece:
- short for masterpiece, usually a highly stylised image which has been previously thought out and sketched on paper. It will normally be signed with a tag.
- Tag:
- The most simplistic form of graffiti, a made up name or symbol which is then 'tagged' i.e. replicated as many times and in as many places as possible.
- Throw Up:
- Big, often bubble, letters done in between one and three minutes. One grade up from a tag, usually used to cover space.
- Toy:
- A first time or inexperienced graffiti writer.
- Writer:
- A graffiti 'writer'; someone who 'does' graffiti.
